Aaron Pederson is a registered patent attorney focusing on electrical, software, navigation, telecommunications, wireless, and mechanical technologies. Aaron’s intellectual property (IP) practice focuses on patents and trademarks and specifically includes patent and trademark prosecution, client and third-party portfolio review, infringement and validity studies, and post-grant procedures.
Aaron regularly manages and advises on all aspects of worldwide patent portfolios, including concept identification, filing decisions, application drafting, response preparation, and enforcement considerations. Aaron is also valued for his insight preparing arguments for and against Inter Parties Review (IPR) petitions. Aaron leverages his background in having addressed hundreds of 102 and 103 positions during prosecution and validity review of relevant technology to make informed judgements on the positions taken in IPR petitions and responses.
Aaron earned his undergraduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Minnesota Duluth, cum laude, and his law degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center (FPLC) (now University of New Hampshire School of Law), cum laude. While at FPLC, Aaron served as a research assistant for Professor Craig Jepson in the areas of Patent Prosecution and Patent Litigation.
Aaron was a key member of the legal team that delivered an impressive $75 million result for ADC Telecommunications involving wireless OFDM technology. The case presented unique challenges because there were no previously issued patent claims to use as precedents, wireless standards were evolving, and no product was on the market yet. Aaron persuaded a committee of patent examiners, stubbornly against allowing the applications, to reconsider and grant allowance, greatly increasing the value of the portfolio.
