Nate is a registered patent attorney with experience counseling clients from various industries in intellectual property disputes. He is a zealous advocate who takes pride in identifying a winning argument and clearly articulating that argument in briefing and oral arguments. He also enjoys managing complex cases with many interrelated factual and legal issues.

Nate is especially adept at handling cases that involve both Federal District Court litigation and post-grant proceedings such as Inter Partes Reviews at the US Patent and Trademark Office. On multiple occasions, Nate’s client teams used the threat of a well-drafted IPR or PGR petition to achieve a favorable early settlement. When settlement has not been possible, Nate worked on teams achieving successful client results in final written decisions. In a case involving a small patent owner facing a large publicly owned defendant, the Carlson Caspers team defeated the defendant’s IPR petition, placing the patent in a strong position for the remaining district court litigation. In another case, where Carlson Casper’s represented the defendant, Carlson Caspers’ team used an IPR to invalidate 114 out of 117 asserted patent claims and ultimately recovered more than $1 million in attorneys’ fees for their client.
